Baker Real Estate
The Baker Historic District, from 6th Avenue to Broadway, and Mississippi to the Platte River is a well-preserved middle class neighborhood developed during a 50-year span from the 1870s to the 1920s and is by all accounts, Denver’s oldest neighborhood. Baker was designated an Historic District by the city of Denver in 1985, and continues today to draw residents who appreciate its historic charm, and the conveniences of its central urban location.

Denver architects William Lang and Marshall Pugh, well known for their fanciful and imaginative residential designs, helped develop the Baker district during the late 1800’s. A variety of well preserved Queen Anne-Style homes within the district stand as evidence. A good deal of Baker’s development was relegated to commercial and industrial growth for a lot of years, but more recently, the district has become a popular urban neighborhood due in large part to its central location and easy access to major routes of transportation in to and out of the city. Home prices can vary greatly, and $350,000 can be about average. However, some of the newer condominium projects offer luxurious properties, with accommodations, and prices to match. The Baker real estate market is very much alive, and with its finger on the pulse of preservation.
About Baker, Colorado
Under the watchful eye of the city of Denver, and mindful of its designation as an historic district, Baker moves cautiously, but steadily toward urban renewal. To this end, Broadway is now home to eclectic row galleries, bookstores, antique shops, and boutiques with vintage apparel. First-rate theaters are in no short supply. All eyes seen to be on the Baker neighborhood, and Broadway in particular, as it transitions from historic charm to urban convenience. And lest we forget, we have a Mr. Thomas Skerritt to thank for the creation of Broadway. Following the great Cherry Creek flood of 1864, Mr. Skerritt turned a log on its side and dragged it behind his wagon several miles, to help create a “broad way” into Denver. Rarely acknowledged, forever appreciated.
